The Rev. Dr. Monte Canfield is our Pastor. He and his wife, Sue, live in Newcomerstown. His church office is in the parsonage next to the church in Gnaden. Normally you can reach him at his church office Tuesday through Thursday from 10AM to 3PM; and at his home office at other times.

Dr. Canfield retired at the end of 2002 as Pastor of St. Paul’s UCC in Port Washington. He came here in January, 2003 for “a few months,” and then became our permanent Pastor in May, 2003. He says that he is “un-retired.” “This church is full of wonderful people who keep me young and focused on the future. It has been a rewarding several years and I look forward to serving God in this place for some time to come, “ he said.

Prior to coming to the Tuscarawas Valley, Dr. Canfield served as Pastor of the First Congregational UCC in Ottawa, Illinois.

Before going to seminary at age 50, his professional years were in public service, including, for many years, serving in the Federal Government in Washington, DC. After leaving government service he was an executive with a major chemical company in NYC and St. Louis, and owned a business in St. Louis.

Dr. Canfield holds several academic degrees: BA, MA. M.Div and ThD.

His, and Sue’s, primary hobby is motorcycling. They spend their vacation times touring the country on their motorcycles.
