Why Report Your Muskie Catches!
The Division of Wildlife stocks almost 100% of Ohio muskies, and utilizes the Muskie Program to monitor the age, size and numbers of fish. The project is supported by anglers through the registration and reporting of fish they catch in Ohio waters. The data compiled through the reporting of muskie catches is crucial to understanding the dynamics of Ohio's muskie populations, growth rates, and the overal quality of our fishery. Information gathered by these surveys helps determine which lakes may benefit most from limited stocking resources, so the overall success of Muskie proliferation in Ohio is dependent upon angler participation. Reporting a muskie catch is simple. The information our fish biologists need consists mainly of the body of water where the fish was caught, whether it was kept or released, it's length, if it was a tagged fish...that tag number, and the condition of the fish if it was released. Fish can be reported by use of the "catch reporting cards" or the online Muskie Angler Log (MAL) at http://www.ohiodnr.com/muskielog . There are lakes and streams where many of the muskies caught, never get reported to
the ODW. You can find the fish reporting information at most bait shops or marinas near lakes where muskies
have been stocked. Many of the Muskie Fishing Clubs in Ohio can furnish catch reporting cards to their members and local bait shops. You can write to Division of Wildlife, District
Two 952 Lima Ave., Findlay, Ohio 45840-9917 to request catch reporting cards. OHMC MUSKIE RETURNS: 2005 Angler Scale Sample List: Click on the link below to view. Please allow for extended download time.
