STORE HISTORY
The Westchester General Store is located in the little town of West Chester. It is the only remaining retail business in the once bustling town. It serves as a grocery, hardware and gift shop. It also is a popular Bed and Breakfast, serving a complete country breakfast. The town of Westchester was laid out in 1814 by John Cadwallader and was first named Cadwallader. The town was on the Coshocton Post Road which was a heavily traveled road to the West. The General Store was built between the mid to late 1800’s. We have traced it back to 1871 and hope to eventually find the actual building date. If anyone has any information about its early history or pictures, we would love to hear from you. The store is being restored to its once functional purpose and is once again serving the needs of the community. |
