GOODMAN-HERMAN FAMILY |
I have had requests that a History of the Goodman-Herman Ancestors be compiled. For twelve
years my daughters and I have been researching the Genealogy of the Goodman - Herman line.(It
started out as a 4-H project) The book was completed by the 91st Reunion which was in 1998 (100
years) from the First Reunion. The book has copies of pictures and important documents in it. In
compiling a work of this complexity, we have had a lot of help from family members. Cleo Herman
Levengood has shared her research. So far we have over 700 family members in our files.

The GOODMAN family did not come to the United States together. The first to come was
Catherine, b. June 19, 1833, who in 1854 at age 21 came to America She married John Herman Dec.
13, 1855 in Tuscarawas County ( Tusc Cty Marriage Records Vol 5) and settled on the
Winesburg-Dundee road. Because her husband had been ill several years before his death, she asked
her brother Leonard John Goodman b. June 11, 1843 to come over and help on the farm in 1869
(from Holmes County History Book page 50). From Cemetery records I found that John Michael
Goodman was b. January 1, 1853, so I figure he was the youngest of the family and I am not sure
when he came to the U.S. George Leonard Goodman and his half brother Fred Carl came about
1876, with George signing his naturalization papers in Holmes county in 1886. Leonard John
Goodman signed his naturalization papers in Tuscarawas County June 14, 1873.
