Senior Center Membership

The $15.00 annual membership fee is only requested when signing up for the computer lab/classes, use of the exercise equipment, use of the walking track and non-funded Area Agency on Aging exercise clasees such as Zumba and Yoga.

No one will be denied participation in any activity or meals if there is a financial hardship. Please speak to the director, should you need assistance.

 

Arts/Crafts

 

Card Embroidery: Tuesdays at 12:30. Instructor, Linda Miller provides a sample of the card you will make each week. Cost: $3.00, which includes materials needed for your first card; additional packets are available at a cost of $3.00.

Art/Painting Classes: Tuesday mornings from 9:00 - 11:00. We are now offering a variety of painted craft projects under the direction of Instructor, Faith Williams. Some samples are available in activity office. Cost is $3.00 per class. Sign up at the front desk.

Iris Paper Folding: Monday, November 8, 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. You will learn the technique of paper folding to create beautiful cards or wall art. All materials are furnished. Cost is $1.00 payable at time of sign up prior to class date.

Wool Snowman Sweatshirt class: Wednesday, November 10 from 4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Bring your own pre-washed sweatshirt. Instructor, Linda Freed will provide the wool and other materials to create this fun project. Class cost is $10.00 to be paid day of class, however sign up is required at front desk to save your spot. See sample in activities office.

Holiday Stamped Card Collection: Saturday, November 13 from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Instructor, Alice Banks will provide all materials to create three seasonal cards. See sample in activities office. Cost: $4.00.

Holiday Live Greens Centerpiece: Wednesday, December 1 from 12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Instructor, Linda Freed will provide all materials needed. See illustration of centerpiece in activities office. Cost: $10.00 to be paid day of class, however sign up is required to assure enough materials for each person.

Baked Holiday Tile Class: Saturday, December 4 from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m., sign up to create a baked, winter wonderland tile. Instructor is Alice Banks. Cost: $4.00.

Quilter's Classes: Quilter's Needs List: Portable sewing machine, rotary cutter, cutter mat & 6-½ x12 ½ inch ruler. Quilting project cost is $3.00 per class, must be pre-registered prior to class dates.

"Strip" Quilt: Wednesday, December 1, 8 & 15 from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Learn the technique of assembling a quilt using strips of various colors.

Appliquéd Christmas Sweatshirt: Wednesday, December 1, 4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. (bring a pre-washed sweatshirt).

Classes

Writer's Corner: Wednesdays, November 17 & December 15 at 10:00 a.m. Looking for writers of short stories, poetry etc. Facilitator is Dottie Huff.

Quilter's Corner: Calling all quilters! We meet the 1st & 2nd Wednesday of each month from noon until 2:00 p.m. We are working on individual blocks, which will then become a quilt when finished. Scissors, rotary cutter and mat needed for class. Cost is $3.00 per class. Sign up at front desk. Instructor is Faith Williams.

Painting Class: Tuesday mornings from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Located in the craft room on the first floor of the Center. Learn to paint under the direction of Instructor, Faith Williams. All materials are furnished. Cost is $3.00 per class. Sign up at the front desk. Additional painting boards can be purchased following class at a minimal cost.

 

COMPUTER CLASSES

Sign up for all classes listed below at the receptionist desk.

Labels: Learn how to create mailing labels, file labels, spice labels, etc. Class will create labels with or without pictures or graphics on them. November 2, 3, 4 & 5 from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Cost: $30.00. This class will be repeated again on November 30, December 1, 2, & 3 for those who were unable to sign up for the first one or if you need a refresher.

Excel: Learn to use Excel spreadsheet program to do budgets, make lists, track expenses and much more. November 2, 3, 4 & 5 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Cost: $30.00. This class will be repeated November 30, December 1, 2 & 3 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. for those who missed the first one or if you need a refresher.

Burning picture/music CD's: Learn how to store your pictures on CD's or make your favorite music CD'S. Classes run November 9, 10, 11 & 12 from 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Cost: $30.00. This class will be repeated on December 6, 7, 9 & 10 for those who need a refresher or missed the first one.

Creating slideshows with your pictures & music: Learn to put your pictures in a slideshow for your family and friends, add music and burn to a CD. November 9, 10, 11 & 12 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Cost: $30.00. This class will be repeated on December 6, 7, 9 & 10 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. for those who need a refresher or missed the first one.

*Beginner Saturday computer classes: Saturday, November 6, 13, 20, December 4, 11 & 18 from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Cost: $30.00. Instructor is Kay Ridgway. Classes will include basics on Microsoft Word, creating date bases, creating emails and more!

Total Fitness Exercise: Classes 1, 2 & 3 all focus on increasing range of motion, low-impact (easy on the joints) and flexibility. Many exercises are done sitting in a chair. The perfect class if you have some physical limitations or just prefer low-impact to high-impact. All classes will improve your overall fitness..they are fun and you will see physical results within weeks. No class fee..donations are accepted.

Class 1:Monday, Wednesday & Friday mornings 9:00-10:00.

Class 2: Monday & Thursday mornings 10:00-11:00.

Chair Dance: Mondays & Wednesdays 10:15 a.m. -11:15 a.m. This class is a moderate aerobic exercise program using exciting and fun music. Modifications encouraged per individual. Cost: $17.00 per month.


Senior's Take Off walking program: Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays from 12:00 p.m. -1:00 p.m. Class dates are as follows: November 1, 3, 5, 8, 10, 12, 15, 17,19, 22, December 1, 3, 6, 8, 10, 13, 15, 17. Classes feature nutrition, guest speakers, learning how to eat healthier by making better food choices. Cost: $20.00 for 8-week program. Sign up at front desk.

Beginner Yoga: Tuesdays and Thursdays November 2 - 30, 2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Learn how to alleviate stress while creating a healthy body. Cost: $17.00 per month.

Intermediate Yoga: Tuesdays and Thursdays November 2 - 30, 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Cost: $17.00 per month.

Zumba: Tuesdays and Thursdays November 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 23, 30, December 7, 9, 14, 16, 21 & 30 from 5:15 p.m. - 6:15 p.m. Sessions fill up quickly; sign up early. This is a low-impact aerobics class for active older adults. Cost: $17.00 per month.

Chair Volleyball: Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.. If you can hit a beach ball while sitting in a chair, you can do this.

Open Recreation & Fitness: Shuffle board, billiards, ping-pong, workout equipment, walking track. Cost: Membership $15.00 per year.

Activities

Wii Games: Games available include baseball, bowling, golf,
boxing and tennis. If you are familiar with green fees, bowling
shoes or batting cage fees, you will not want to miss out on this event. It's free and fun!

BINGO:
Monday mornings at 10:00 a.m. Each player brings in 2 prizes valued at a dollar a piece, the cover all is donated each month by Beacon Point, Country Club, Country Lawn, or Interim Healthcare. Caller is Lonnie Fulp.


Bunco: Thursdays at 12:15. Cost is $1.00.
(Payable day of game, prizes will be given.)
If you can roll dice you can play Bunco, this is an old
pub game that only requires dice.

* Edible Mystery Auction: During our holiday months of November & December, we have added something new for you. We are having an "Edible Mystery Auction." All the items are edible. Items will be wrapped in holiday paper. Come on all you bidders out there; let's have some fun bidding on items we can enjoy during the holidays. You will not receive your "play" money for this one. Auctions to be held on Fridays, November 5 & December 3 at 10:30 a.m. Edible Mystery Auction items are provided by the Senior Center.

Wheel of Fortune: Fridays, November 12 & December 10, 10:30 a.m. Similar to the TV show held nightly, puzzles are put onto a board as players guess letters to reveal the puzzle. Prizes are given.

 

Senior Center Clubs

Single Fellowship

Single Fellowship is a club for widowed, single or divorced seniors.
They meet the third Tuesday of each month at 4:00pm.
Programs vary from speakers, trips, support focus groups, etc.

Bible Study Club

Join us each Thursday at 10:00 a.m. for Bible Study. Our group continues to grow. Each week area pastors share scriptures with us.

Card Clubs

Cards are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. A variety of cards are played including
Joss, Bridge and Euchre. A county-wide Euchre Tournament
is held the fourth Wednesday of each month at noon.
Sign up in advance is required.
Cost is $1.00 payable at time of sign up.

Prospect Red Hatters

Calling all ladies age 50 and up!
Prospect Red Hatters wants YOU!
Informative, interesting and fun programs are planned
for the remainder of the year.
Meetings are held the first Thursday of the month at 12:30.
Dues are $2.00 per meeting and the only requirement
is that you wear a red hat when attending any
RED HAT function.
