UNDERSTANDING THE AMISH CULTURE
This basic workshop on Amish culture features an overview of the Amish lifestyle and current trends in Amish society, particularly among Amish women. Other topics include: historical Anabaptist background, communication patterns, family structure and roles, child rearing practices, and mutual aid systems illustrated by a home video of an Amish barn raising. Participants will learn the differences among four major Amish groups and how they affect professional practice with Amish clients/patients. Specific guidelines for professionals are presented to assist them in working effectively with the Amish population.
