My
father and mother were born in Muensigen, which is in Caton Berne,
Switzerland. My mother's maiden name was Katherine
Luthy and my father's name was Christian Maurer, he was a railroader in
Switzerland. My father's mother's name was Stucky before her marriage.
My father's family were mostly railroaders. Grandfather Maurer played mostly
for dances with a zither.
Mother and father left
Muensigen and moved to Thune. In Thune, there was a big schoolhouse in
the center of town. Here is where I went to school. Thune is also in Caton
Berne.
Christ
Maurer said he did not know if there were any aunts or uncles living
anymore in Switzerland. However, we do have
second cousins..... There names are Louise and Emma Luthy. Inez Enaman
corresponded with them and so did her father, Jacob Maurer, while
they were still living.
Four of their children
Christian, Rosina, Fredrick, and Ferdinand were born in
Switzerland before their parents emmigrated
to the United States of America in
about the year 1873 or early 1874.
Christian Maurer
was born in 1842 and his wife, Katherine Luthy was born in
1843. Both were born in Berne, Switzerland.
As children, this was their home, and
this is where they were married.
Four of their children
were born in Berne, Switzerland. In about the year 1873 or early 1874,
Christian and Katherine, with their four children, emmigrated to the
United States of America. When they arrived
in the U.S.A., they settled on a farm in Auburn Township, in Tuscarawas
County, Ohio.
