FORMER RESIDENT COMMITS
SUICIDE ------------------------------------------------ While despondent over ill health, Jacob Schide, 72, retired stone
mason and resident of New Philadelphia for the last 16 years, committed suicide at the home of his son, Phillip H. Schide, 413 Kelly Street,
New Philadelphia, Saturday, September 22nd, by firing a bullet from
a 32 caliber revolver into his abdomen. The bullet entered his body below
the ribs and took an upward course and penetrated the lower portion
of the heart, causing instant death. Mr. Schide was born June 10th, 1856, in
Coshocton County, in the vicinity of Newcomerstown;
had been in ill health for a period of over a year, and had been in the habit of sitting in out buildings or to
ponder alone in the garden of his son's home. His condition became worse
two weeks ago, and much of the time he could not lie down on account
of heart disease and bronchial trouble. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Henrietta
Schide, and four children, Mrs. Charles Young, Bolivar; Emmet Ray Schide, 445 Third St. N.
W., New Philadelphia, Clarence Irvin Schide, of Strasburg, who at present is in the Marine hospital Cleveland, undergoing treatment for an
eye which was shot out in battle overseas; and Phillip Schide of the
home, also an overseas veteran of the world war; one sister Mrs. Susan
Smith, and seven grandchildren of New Philadelphia, also survive. Coroner Lewis viewed the body, and funeral

Schide Jr., 77 of New Philadelphia
died Sunday, Feb. 8,1998, in Union Hospital at Dover. Born June 1, 1920, in New Philadelphia,
he was the son of the late Emmett R. and Bessie Selby Schide. Mr. Schide was a 1939 graduate
of New Philadelphia High School and was an Army veteran of World War II. He retired from General Electric Co. of Dover in 1983 as a millwright after 32 years of service. Mr. Schide was very interested in archaeology
and served as president of Sugarcreek Valley Archeological Society. He rebound books and caned chairs, and along with Mrs. Schide and his daughter, operated a booth at Dutch Valley Antique Mall. Survivors include his wife, Arlene M. Lawrence
Schide, whom he married June 28, 1941; a daughter, Carol Schide of New Philadelphia;
a son, Howard (Sally) Schide of Exeter, R.I.; a sister, Nancy (Earl) Wright of Troy; two brothers, Paul Schide of Sarasota, Fla., and Howard (Kathy) Schide of St. Charles , Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
a sister, Margaret Schide. A private funeral service will be held
in Linn-Hert-Gieb Funeral Home at New Philadelphia with Rev. Don Perks officiating. Burial
will be in East Avenue Cemetery at new Philadelphia. Memorial contributions may be made to the

Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and a lifelong Newcomerstown resident, died
late Wednesday night, Feb. 11,(1998) in Coshocton County Memorial Hospital. Marcella was born in Newcomerstown on May
31, 1914 a daughter of the late Clement F. "Jack" Eagon, who died in 1957, and the late Nora Schide Eagon, who died in 1919. She was a 1932 graduate of Newcomerstown High School. She was a member of Christ United Methodist
Church and its Fellowship Sunday School Class, Thomas Montgomery Post 431 of the American Legion Auxillary at Newcomerstown. Marcella was a homemaker for all her adult life and was an avid reader and enjoyed working crossword puzzles. She was married June 8, 1938 to W. Robert
Parks, who died Jan. 30,1990. Also deceased are two brothers, Robert Eagon of El Paso, Texas, who died in 1989, and Roger C. Eagon of Hartville who died
in 1992, and a stepbrother, Max Tyhurst of Newcomerstown,
who died in 1978. Marcella is survived by two sons and a
daughter-in-law, William E. and Leslie Parks of Oklahoma City and Dennis R. Parks of Columbus; a granddaughter and her husband, Lisa and Scott Summers of Oklahoma City; a brother and two sister-in-law. Rodney and Bertha Eagon of Newcomerstown and Shirley Eagon of El Paso; two brother- in-law, H. Gene and Paul Parks of Newcomerstown; a sister-in-law
and her husband, Annabelle and Garner Stocker of Newcomerstown; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday,
Feb. 14, 1998, at 11 a.m. in Ourant Funeral Home at Newcomerstown with Rev. Gary George and Glenn Brunstetter officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call in the funeral home Friday(tonight) from 6 to 8
p.m. and Saturday one hour before the funeral. The family suggests memorials to be made
