Who the heck is Harry Schide? The first Wise Family Newsletter is
hot-off the presses and staring you in the face. A long time in coming and long time in the making, this newsletter, I hope, will become a periodic communication between the members of the Wise family. Genealogical research of the Wises is in process and information discovered will be included in this newsletter along with family news. The Wises moved into the Newcomerstown
area in around 1847 and lived on a 40 acre farm on Buckhorn Road, about 2 miles north of Newcomerstown. Two miles further north, just off Rt. 21, is Bethal Cemetery, located in Salem Township and in the oldest part of this
hillside cemetery lies the grave of George Wise, whom at this point,
we believe to be the oldest known Wise buried in Ohio. The inscription on the broken
stone is for the most part unreadable except for the name. A book of cemetery inscriptions found in the local library clarifies the writing--George
Wise, died 1 July 1875, 84y, 10m, 6d. Along side George are three grandchildren, Henry, Mary E., and Rosanna. Henry died in 1859 at the age of 20,
Rosanna was 23 when she died in 1872, and Mary E., a nine month old infant,
died September 16th,1860. These three were the children of William and
Mary Wise. In addition to Henry, Rosanna, and the baby, Mary, were
George( the son of William and Mary) William Thomas,
Samuel, Anne M., Eberla, and Julian. William Thomas, or William T. as I have
grown to know him, is the father of Jesse Leroy Wise, who is the father
of Ralph Leroy Wise, with whom we are more familiar. Jesse "Roy" Wise married
Augusta Mae Schide and Harry Schide
was her brother. A family tree chart is included with this
newsletter to give everybody a better idea of people, dates, and relationships. Any feedback, information, or questions concerning the Wise Family News Letter or its contents
is encouraged. Write me today or E-mail mitchlwise@tusco.net **************************************************************************************
